ISAAC & AMANDA BOHANON SCHOLARSHIP
The Isaac and Amanda Bohanon Scholarship is an endowment at Tennessee Technological University for a 4 year scholarship named after the late Isaac & Amanda Bohanon, two of many great educators in this area. This scholarship is to be awarded to the top minority high school student in the county. It is exclusively for Tennessee Technological University, because we would like to keep our best and brightest home so that they can contribute back to this community.
Isaac Bohanon
Mr. Bohanon was one who walked softly among us, but carried a big stick. That stick was his character of service consciousness and service excellence. Isaac Bohanon served the people he loved; the residents of Cookeville, Putnam County and the Upper Cumberland. His professional career with Putnam County Board of Education spans 32 years. 18 of which highlight his stellar tenure as Principal at Darwin High and Elementary. At Darwin, he supervised five teachers, served as Head Basketball Coach, Secretary and part-time Janitor. We the members of Impact and the entire community tonight pause to salute the life and works of your leader and father, Principal Isaac H. Bohanon. We call his legacy and your family Blessed!
Amanda Bohanon
Always the complement to her husband, Mrs. Amanda’s career mirrored Mr. Isaac’s both at the school house and at the church house. Their stewardship of the area’s Negro school, Darwin Elementary and High School, for years and various teaching assignment subsequent made her a highly respected woman. Several of us who have served on the hospital’s staff have been paused by the accolades heralded her way not only from our community of color but by physicians and nurses on staff at CRMC who were developed by her teaching hand during their formative years. Amongst whom were Dr. Lee Moore, Dr. Scott Copeland, and Dr. Alex Case. Mrs. Bohanon believed that every individual no matter their skin color deserved a good education. And on her watch she made sure each of her students got just that! Well Done Mrs. Bohanon! You were a good and faithful servant to us in the Upper Cumberland.
